Review basis: Researched on 4 November 2026 using Rapid Loans’ Medium Amount Credit Contract target market determination, effective 11 August 2026, pricing information, security requirements, application guidance and privacy and credit-reporting disclosures. This review covers Rapid’s smaller secured loan. Product-specific terms take precedence over general marketing figures; the application minimum discrepancy is explained below. No personalised quotation or executed credit contract was inspected. The provider fee and complete borrowing cost require written confirmation. Suitability comments and the repayment illustration are editorial assessments, not personal borrowing experience.

Rapid Loans short-term loan review: summary

  • Provider and purpose: Rapid markets a secured Medium Amount Credit Contract (MACC) for eligible personal expenses. Its product document identifies Precise Transactions Pty Ltd as the issuer.
  • Amounts and terms: $2,001–$4,600 excluding fees, repayable over 12–18 months. The online application instead displays a $2,100 minimum; confirm availability below that amount directly.
  • Interest and comparison rate: Fixed interest of 22% p.a. A MACC-specific comparison rate was not verified; the broader website’s lower advertised rates should not be treated as this product’s price.
  • Fees: A $400 establishment fee plus a provider fee determined by risk and loan characteristics. Rapid also publishes a $28 dishonour fee and no early termination fee. Obtain the complete fee schedule.
  • Security and insurance: An eligible registered vehicle is required. Rapid’s security guidance says it generally needs comprehensive insurance. Premiums add to affordability costs, and repayment default can put the vehicle at risk.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 18, Australian citizens or permanent residents, and satisfy income, affordability and credit checks. Providing security does not establish eligibility.
  • Application: Apply online through Rapid. Funding may arrive the same or next business day after approval and settlement, depending on timing and the receiving bank.
  • Editorial assessment: Potentially suitable for a defined expense with a credible repayment plan. The main limitations are the vehicle exposure and fees that make the headline interest rate an incomplete measure of cost.
Founder perspective

Alexander Balanoff on Rapid Loans

With Rapid Loans, I would consider whether a small cash advance justifies putting an essential vehicle at risk. If you depend on that vehicle for work, losing it could also affect the income needed to repay your debts. I would get the provider fee in dollars, include any additional insurance costs, and compare an unsecured option for the same cash amount and repayment period. At LoanXP, my assessment would weigh the full borrowing cost alongside the consequences of default. A manageable instalment matters, but so does what happens if your income falls.

Rapid Loans eligibility and documents

You need an Australian residential address and enough verified income to meet repayments alongside living expenses and existing debts. The MACC target market excludes undischarged bankrupts, people currently in a Part IX debt agreement, and applicants experiencing substantial financial hardship or severe financial stress.

Rapid’s application guidance identifies photo ID, recent bank statements and payslips as documents it may request. Expect questions about income, expenses, employment and financial commitments. The checked guidance does not establish a universal minimum salary or a fixed bank-statement period.

For security, Rapid generally requires a vehicle registered in your name, comprehensively insured, maintained in working order and valued at least two-thirds of the loan amount. Its published vehicle criteria remain subject to assessment; provide registration details and confirm whether existing finance affects acceptance.

Who should consider this loan?

This structure may suit someone funding a specific household expense who can sustain repayments and accepts using a vehicle as security. Its fixed repayment schedule offers a defined end date, but that does not make the borrowing inexpensive.

Reconsider if you need repeated borrowing for ordinary bills, depend on the vehicle for work, or would struggle to maintain its insurance. Compare personal loans with different security requirements using the same cash amount and repayment period.

For eligible essential purchases, check No Interest Loans before taking commercial credit. These generally provide up to $2,000 without interest or fees, subject to eligibility, and pay the supplier rather than providing cash. A payment arrangement with the bill provider may also reduce the amount you need to borrow.

How the Rapid Loans application works

Application and assessment

Start through Rapid’s official website, enter your requested amount and purpose, and provide personal and financial details. A consultant may request documents or clarification before assessing the application. Review the proposed contract, security conditions and repayment schedule before accepting.

The application form inspected displays a $2,100 minimum, despite the MACC document starting at $2,001. Ask Rapid about smaller requests instead of increasing your borrowing to fit the form. Application assistance is available on 1300 727 431.

Approval and funding times

Rapid’s funding guidance allows for same-day or next-business-day receipt after approval and settlement. Document requests, assessment and bank processing can extend the process; an application submission is not a funding commitment.

Questions to settle before signing

  • Which company is the lender, which product am I receiving, and how much cash will reach me after any deductions?
  • What is my provider fee, which charges are financed, and what are the comparison rate, repayment amount and total payable?
  • Does the contract include administration, security-registration, default or enforcement charges beyond the published fees?
  • What insurance must I maintain, what will it cost, and what exclusions, excesses or valuation limits apply?
  • If I repay early, which interest and fees remain payable, and how is the settlement amount calculated?

Rapid Loans advantages and limitations

Advantages: Fixed scheduled repayments support budgeting, with weekly, fortnightly or monthly payment options. Rapid allows additional repayments and early settlement without an early repayment fee.

Limitations: The establishment charge is substantial relative to a small advance, and the provider fee is not a single published amount. Vehicle security creates an additional consequence of default. Differences between the application form, general FAQs and product documents also make a written product-specific quote important.

Rapid Loans interest, fees and total cost

The MACC document specifies 22% annual fixed interest. Rapid’s general pricing page advertises an APR range of 12.95%–22% and comparison rates from 16.27% across its wider range. Those headline figures do not establish a lower MACC rate or its total annualised cost.

  • Establishment: $400. This alone equals approximately 19% of a $2,100 advance, before interest or other costs.
  • Provider fee: Individually determined; obtain its dollar amount and confirm whether interest is charged on it.
  • Dishonour: Rapid publishes $28 for a failed payment.
  • Ongoing charges: General pricing associates the $25 monthly administration fee with terms over 24 months. Confirm the ongoing charges applicable to your shorter contract.
  • Early repayment: No early termination fee is advertised. Request a payout figure rather than assuming previously charged fees will be refunded.

Include any required comprehensive insurance premium in your budget. The checked material did not establish a MACC-specific insurance premium, policy or exclusions. Obtain the relevant policy wording; vehicle insurance should not be assumed to cover loan repayments following unemployment or illness.

Illustrative repayment calculation

Illustration only—not a complete Rapid quotation: Assume $3,000 cash borrowed, the $400 establishment fee added to the balance, 22% annual interest and 12 equal monthly repayments. Using monthly interest of 22% divided by 12 gives approximately $318 per month and $3,819 repaid, about $819 above the cash received.

This calculation excludes the unquantified provider fee, insurance, conditional charges and any other applicable costs. It assumes interest applies to the financed establishment fee. Actual interest calculations, fee treatment and rounding may differ. Compare the lender’s complete repayment schedule with this illustration before assessing affordability.

Is Rapid Loans worth considering?

Rapid’s strongest feature is repayment flexibility within a fixed schedule, including early repayment without a termination fee. Its main drawback is combining vehicle security with upfront and individually priced charges. Compare the complete written offer with other short-term borrowing options; the decisive measures are total cost, affordable repayments and whether pledging your vehicle is justified.

Rapid Loans short-term loan FAQs

Can I borrow without offering a vehicle?

Rapid currently says it does not offer unsecured loans. An eligible registered vehicle must be accepted as security; meeting the income requirements alone is insufficient.

Does Rapid Loans accept bad credit?

Rapid says an imperfect credit history does not automatically exclude an application. Acceptance depends on its assessment, and the MACC exclusions still apply. Its privacy policy also allows automated declines where a credit score falls below its lending criteria.

Benefits may form part of an applicant’s income, but Rapid’s current website says it cannot lend where Centrelink is the sole income source. Acceptance depends on the income mix and repayment capacity.

Will applying affect my credit file?

It may. Rapid’s privacy disclosure says it may obtain a credit report, and the reporting body may record the enquiry. Multiple enquiries may affect your credit score; do not assume the application is a soft eligibility check.

Can self-employed applicants qualify?

The checked sources did not establish a MACC-specific self-employed eligibility rule or minimum trading period. Ask which income records Rapid will accept and how it assesses fluctuating earnings before submitting an application.

Can I repay early and redraw the extra payments?

Additional repayments and early settlement are permitted without an early payout fee. The MACC document says advance payments cannot be redrawn, so keep enough accessible cash for upcoming expenses.

What if I need $5,000 or $10,000?

That falls outside the smaller product reviewed here. Rapid’s separate personal-loan document covers $4,601–$45,000 over 24–60 months, with different fees. Do not apply the MACC pricing to that larger loan.

What if I cannot repay or have a complaint?

Contact Rapid’s hardship team on 1300 660 531 or hardship@rapidloans.com.au. Assistance requests are free, and available arrangements depend on your circumstances.

For a complaint, use IDR@rapidloans.com.au or the same phone number. Rapid’s complaints procedure identifies the Australian Financial Complaints Authority as the external escalation route if the outcome remains unsatisfactory: AFCA, 1800 931 678.
