CQ University - Loans up to $1000
CQ University allows students to apply for student loans of up to $1000 to help them pay for living expenses such as rent, electricity, groceries and textbooks.
Their student loans were designed to help students when they are experiencing temporary financial difficulty. To apply for a student loan the student must be currently actively studying at the time when they submit the application.
ANZ Graduate loans
An AZN graduate loan is aimed at students that are in their final year of studies or have recently graduated. These loans start at a minimum of $5,000 and the maximum amount will depend on what the student is studying.
The interest rate is fixed for the first year of the loan and then will become variable for the remaining 4 years. To help you find your feet you will not need to make any payments within the first year of the loan thereafter repayments will be automatically debited from your account.
StepUp loans
Their StepUp loan program was developed for those students that have difficulty getting a loan from the bank. Aimed at those students that are living on a low income these types of loans are not limited to being used to pay for your studies and can be used for a variety of different purposes.
This program is a nonprofit origination initiative between Good Shepherd Microfinance and National Australian Bank (NAB) to help empower future generations.
Saver plan
The Saver plan was set up in 2003 and is a 10-month financial education program that teaches students and their families to develop and implement better saving habits. As a reward for following the program, all participants receive up to $500 in matched savings once they have completed the program that can be used towards educational costs.
They will meet your exact requirements
They offer a number of different student loan options to meet the student’s exact requirements. There are personal loans available for those needing financial aid as well as different course options.
Requirements to apply for a student loan
- The student must be at least 18 years old and be enrolled in a course at a university
- The loan can only be used for study-related expenses
- The loan must be paid back within 3 years
- No repayments need to be made within the first year of the loan
No interest loan scheme (NILS)
This scheme was developed to provide lower-income families with access to affordable quick credit options.
NILS allows the student to borrow between $300 and $1,200 that can be used on essential items such as a fridge, washing machine or other essential goods. The repayment terms are very affordable and can be paid off over 18 months.
NILS offer you the benefit of not charging any fees or additional charges. To qualify for NILS you must have a Health Care Card and earn less than $45,000 per year. These loans are for essential purposes and can’t be used for debt consolidation or to pay for holidays or bills.

Ways to save
Save money on textbooks by asking your lecturer which books you need to complete your course and only purchase the ones that you need. Ask the students that completed the course the year before if you can purchase their books instead of buying new ones.
Try to look for deals online or in second-hand bookstores. The library will carry a copy of each textbook so that you can make photocopies until you can purchase your textbooks.
