RMIT University – Easy loan applications

RMIT University is a university that is recognised globally and specialises in technology, design and enterprise.

They offer undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational programs that are accepted globally and have a global reach. RMIT University is recognised for its global contribution to architecture and in the business field, they are a leader in global communications.

Courses offered

Go online to browse their wide variety of different courses and choose between art, biomedical science, building and development, business applications, communications, community services, design, education, engineering, fashion, game design, health science, information technology, law and science. All these courses are offered in the classroom and online.

How to apply

To apply for RMIT University log onto their website and browse the courses that they have on offer, each program will show the program's structure, it will detail fees and fee structures for those wishing to budget or apply for a loan, all requirements that you will need in order to apply for the course as well as how to apply and the different application methods. Once you have found a program that you are interested in you will need to check when the course will receive new applications. This information is available on the website.

Section tasks

Some courses will require you to complete section tasks that must be included with your application. If the course you are applying has a section task to complete it will be listed under the course requirements. These tasks can range from anything to interviews, folios and supplementary information. If you do not complete the section task your application will be declined.

Financial solutions for students

To assist you with financing your studies there are a number of different financial solutions and student loans available to students. 

The different loan schemes that are available to students include:

  • HECS – HELP: This option is available for eligible higher education students.
  • FEE-HELP: This option is for students that pay the full fee for higher education studies.
  • VET Student Loans: This option is for vocational students.
  • SA-HELP: This personal loan can be used to help pay for student services and your amenities fee.
  • OS-HELP: This loan can help you pay for students studying overseas.

What is a HECS-HELP loan?

This loan is available for eligible students to pay for their student contribution amounts. This loan can’t be used to purchase textbooks or pay for rent and accommodation costs.

The criteria to apply are as follows:

  • The student must be studying in a Commonwealth-supported place.
  • The student must be an Australian citizen.
  • The student must be currently enrolled in the University by the census date.
  • There is no interest fee charged on this type of loan.

RMIT University – Helping you cover the cost of your studies

This student loan is to assist the student with paying for their tuition fees. It can’t be used to pay for student accommodation or study materials.

If you qualify for FEE-HELP you will qualify for a certain amount. This amount is known as the FEE-HELP limit. Your FEE-HELP balance is the amount that you have left to spend before you reach your FEE-HELP limit.

The loan is charged at a 25% fee this amount does not count towards the FEE-HELP limit.

The criteria for this loan include:

  • The student must be studying at an FEE-HELP-approved provider
  • The student must meet all the residency requirements and be at least 18 years old
  • The student must be enrolled in the University by the census date
  • The student can’t exceed the FEE-HELP limit

 What is a VET student loan?

A VET Student loan is a loan offered by the Australian Government for students that are struggling financially. The loan helps students pay for their vocational educational training (VET) diploma level and higher courses. 

Criteria to apply for a VET student loan include:

  • The student must be an Australian citizen
  • The student must have a FEE-HELP balance of $0
  • The course must be eligible for VET loan assistance
  • The student will need to supply their TFN (Tax File Number)
  • The student will need to supply their student ID
  • The student will need to apply and be enrolled by the census date

The amount that the student will be loaned will be based on the course that the student is applying for, the course fees and the requirements. There are capped amounts associated with each course. The loan can be used to pay for online courses and physical tuition fees.

SA-HELP

  • The SA-HELP fee helps students pay their services or amenities fees.
  • The student will need to be eligible and they will need to apply and complete and sign an SA-HELP assistance form on a specific date. The student will need to supply their TFN and arrange a tax clearance certificate.
  • Once you have applied the student will not need to apply again for the duration of the course.

Fees and costs

You will only need to start paying back your HELP debt once you are earning a certain income but if you apply for an alternative long or short-term loan to finance your studies this will not be the case. Once you have had some breathing room and you start to earn a decent salary and contribute to society, you will be required to start repaying your loan.

The amount that you will be required to pay will be a percentage of your income. The more that you earn the higher the amount will be.
