Review basis: Researched on 4 November 2026 using Credit24’s official short-term loan page, FAQs, Credit Guide dated 27 March 2025 and target market determinations, version 1.2, December 2025. Privacy, insurance, application and repayment-support information was also checked. This review covers the instalment loans advertised under Credit24’s short-term category; its revolving Line of Credit is a separate product. Public pricing tables do not state a separate effective date, and some amount thresholds, rates and default-fee descriptions conflict. These differences are explained in the fees section. No personalised credit contract was reviewed. Suitability comments and the verdict are editorial assessments.

Credit24 short-term loans: amounts, costs and eligibility

  • Provider and purpose: Credit24 is a direct lender operated by IPF Digital Australia Pty Ltd. Its unsecured instalment loans can fund personal expenses such as repairs, medical costs and unexpected bills.
  • Amounts and terms: Advertised borrowing spans $500–$10,000. Small loans of $500–$2,000 run for 6–12 months; larger loans run for 12–36 months, depending on the amount. Published thresholds differ between documents.
  • Interest and fees: Small loans charge a 20% establishment fee plus a monthly service fee of 2%–4%; Credit24 lists interest and APR as not applicable. Larger loans advertise personalised interest of 24%–48% p.a., while footer disclosures state an APR of 24%–47.9%. A $400 establishment fee applies to the advertised medium-loan band; the large-loan band has no establishment fee. Default charges may apply.
  • Security and insurance: No asset security is required. Credit24 states that optional loan insurance is not required.
  • Eligibility: Applicants generally need to be at least 18, have eligible Australian residency or visa status, earn more than $500 a month and meet employment, credit and affordability criteria. Product-specific age limits and pension exceptions apply.
  • Application: Apply online with identification and electronic bank statements. Credit checks and final verification apply; rapid transfers depend on approval and the receiving bank.
  • Assessment: Scheduled repayments and no early-repayment penalty offer flexibility. The main limitation is cost: a small loan can carry substantial fees despite charging no interest, while “short-term” borrowing can extend to three years.
Founder perspective

Alexander Balanoff on Credit24

With a Credit24 short-term loan, I would compare the total repayment for the amount I actually need. Establishment fees and monthly charges can make a small loan expensive even when interest is listed as not applicable. If I expected to repay early, I would ask for a settlement figure showing which charges I would save. That matters because an early-repayment penalty and the underlying borrowing costs are separate things. My decisive comparison would be the total dollar cost across offers for the same cash amount and repayment date.

Credit24 eligibility and required documents

Credit24 assesses income, living costs, existing commitments and credit history before deciding whether to lend. Earning more than $500 a month is an application threshold, not evidence that the requested repayments are affordable.

  • Residency: Australian citizens, permanent residents, New Zealand citizens and eligible visa holders may apply. Student visa holders and overseas visitors are excluded under the product target market documents.
  • Age: Applicants must be at least 18. The small-loan target market document excludes applicants aged 70 and over. The personal-loan document excludes new customers aged 70 and over but allows existing customers up to age 76 inclusive.
  • Income: Full-time, part-time, casual and self-employed income may qualify. Employment is generally required, with an age-pension exception described below.
  • Documents: Have a mobile number, email address, identification details and access to the previous three months of bank transactions. Credit24 accepts identification such as a driver’s licence, Medicare card or passport.

The Privacy and Credit Reporting Policy says a credit-report enquiry may occur after you begin the online application and will appear on your credit file. The process should not be treated as a quote-only soft check.

When a Credit24 short-term loan may fit

This borrowing may suit a defined, one-off expense where reliable income leaves enough room for every repayment. An instalment loan gives the debt a scheduled end date, which can help borrowers who do not want ongoing access to credit.

Reconsider if the loan would cover a recurring shortage, repay another expensive loan without reducing total costs, or fund spending that can wait. For eligible essential expenses, a No Interest Loan may provide up to $2,000 without interest or fees; the supplier is paid directly. A bill-provider payment arrangement or a lower-cost personal loan may also be worth comparing.

How Credit24 applications and repayments work

Application and assessment

  1. Use Credit24’s official application route to select the amount and requested term, then provide your personal and financial details.
  2. Supply identification and electronic bank information. An initial online response may be conditional; Credit24 can request further information during its manual review.
  3. Check the proposed contract, repayment schedule and total cost before accepting. Approved instalment-loan funds are transferred to your bank account, with repayments generally collected by direct debit around your pay cycle.

Decision and payment timing

Credit24 aims to provide a final decision within 24 hours, but verification and business hours affect timing. Transfers can arrive within minutes after approval at participating Osko banks. This is a transfer estimate, not a promise of immediate approval.

Customer service is available on 1300 293 000 or info@credit24.com.au, Monday–Friday, 8 am–8 pm, and Saturday, 9 am–5 pm, AEST.

Questions to resolve before accepting an offer

  • Which product and pricing band am I being offered, and how much cash will reach my account after any deductions?
  • What is the total amount repayable, including establishment fees, monthly charges and interest?
  • For a small loan, what amount is the monthly fee calculated on, and which future charges stop if I repay early?
  • Which default-fee rule applies: a weekly charge, a charge for each failed debit, or another contractual arrangement?
  • Can the repayment dates match my income, and what assistance is available if my circumstances change?

Credit24 advantages and limitations

Advantages: The loans do not require pledged assets, applications can be submitted online, and Credit24 advertises no early-repayment penalty. Casual and self-employed applicants are considered, subject to assessment.

Limitations: The 20% establishment fee creates a substantial initial cost on small loans. Larger-loan interest is personalised and can approach the advertised upper end. Public disclosures contain inconsistencies that require clarification in the offer. An unsecured loan still creates a repayment obligation and potential credit-file consequences.

Credit24 interest rates, fees and total borrowing cost

The short-term product table advertises the following bands. These are published figures, not a personalised quotation.

Loan band Advertised amount Term Establishment fee Ongoing cost
Small $500–$2,000 6–12 months 20% of the loan amount Monthly service fee of 2%–4%; interest not applicable
Medium $2,001–$5,000 12–24 months $400 Personalised interest of 24%–48% p.a.; $0 monthly service fee
Large $5,100–$10,000 12–36 months $0 Personalised interest of 24%–48% p.a.; $0 monthly service fee

Published differences that need confirmation

Credit24’s footer disclosures quote an APR of 24%–47.9% for medium and large loans, rather than the table’s 24%–48% interest range. Its personal-loan target market document starts at $2,100, while the table starts at $2,001. General FAQs start the large-loan band at $5,001, rather than $5,100. Confirm availability and pricing around these boundaries.

For small loans, the product table and December 2025 target market document agree on 6–12 months; the footer separately mentions a 120-day minimum. The table advertises monthly fees of 2%–4%, while the footer uses 4%. The FAQs refer to an “adjusted loan amount” as the fee base. Obtain the exact percentage, calculation basis and term in writing.

Published comparison rates

Credit24’s footer pricing disclosure gives comparison rates of 32.29%–57.05% p.a. for the medium band, based on an unsecured $2,500 loan over two years including a $400 establishment fee. For the large band, it gives 24%–47.9% p.a., based on an unsecured $10,000 loan over three years.

These comparison rates include interest and specified fees for those examples. Different amounts, terms and charges can produce different results, and not every possible cost is included. Credit24 states that comparison rates do not apply to its small loans or Line of Credit.

Official example: $1,000 over six months

Credit24 publishes a $1,000 small-loan example with a $200 establishment fee and $240 in monthly charges, producing total repayments of $1,440, or six monthly repayments of $240. The arithmetic matches a 4% monthly fee on $1,000 for six months. Its footer calls the $240 charge “monthly interest”, although the product table describes a monthly service fee.

The borrowing cost is $440, equivalent to 44% of the cash borrowed over six months; that percentage is not an APR. The example excludes default charges and is not a personalised offer.

Missed payments, early settlement and insurance

The FAQs quote a $10 weekly default fee. Footer wording instead describes $10 for each dishonoured direct-debit attempt, potentially twice for a late fortnightly payment or four times for a late monthly payment. It states a $50-per-calendar-month cap if a payment remains unpaid for 30 days. The relationship between these descriptions is unclear; confirm the applicable rule before accepting.

Credit24 advertises no early-repayment penalty. For fee-based small loans, request a settlement figure showing any remaining monthly charges rather than assuming all future fees disappear.

Credit24’s insurance guidance states that optional insurance is not required. If separate cover is offered, check its premium, waiting periods and exclusions, particularly for existing conditions and your employment type.

Verdict on Credit24 short-term borrowing

Credit24’s strongest feature is access to an unsecured instalment loan with a repayment schedule and no early-exit penalty. Its main limitation is the cost of borrowing, compounded by inconsistent public pricing descriptions. Compare the cash received, total repayments and settlement terms against other short-term borrowing options. A manageable monthly payment alone does not establish good value.

Credit24 short-term loan FAQs

How does a Credit24 short-term loan compare with its Line of Credit?

An instalment loan provides a lump sum with scheduled repayments. Credit24’s separate Line of Credit allows withdrawals from an approved limit; its product page advertises interest on the outstanding balance and no establishment, account-keeping or withdrawal fees, although default charges can apply. Compare written offers using the same amount and intended repayment date. Access to redraw may be useful, but repeated withdrawals can extend the time you remain in debt.

Are Credit24 small loans cheaper because they do not charge interest?

Not necessarily. For $500–$2,000, Credit24 advertises a 20% establishment fee plus monthly service fees of 2%–4%. Its $1,000 example over six months totals $1,440 at the 4% monthly fee: a $440 borrowing cost before default charges. The absence of interest does not make this equivalent to a loan with no fees.

Borrowing above $2,000 changes the pricing structure: the advertised medium-loan band carries a $400 establishment fee plus personalised interest. Published thresholds and rate ceilings differ between documents; see the pricing discrepancies. Compare total repayments for the cash you actually need rather than increasing the amount to enter another pricing band.

Can I apply with bad credit without adding an enquiry to my credit file?

Credit24’s FAQs exclude applicants with a current default or undischarged bankruptcy. Its Privacy Policy says a credit enquiry may occur after you start the online application and will be recorded on your file. Do not treat the application as a soft eligibility check. When comparing providers, establish whether an initial rate or eligibility check records an enquiry before submitting your details.

Generally, no. Centrelink payments must usually represent no more than 50% of total income. Credit24 publishes an exception for pensioners aged 67 and over, who may apply with Centrelink as their sole income. However, the pension exception does not override product age limits or affordability checks. Applicants approaching 70 should confirm eligibility before applying, because the small-loan target market excludes people aged 70 and over.

Can casual workers and recently self-employed applicants qualify?

Credit24 considers casual employment, but its published self-employed criteria require more than 12 months of trading. It may request the latest ATO Notice of Assessment alongside bank information. Regular deposits alone therefore do not establish eligibility for a newly self-employed applicant. When comparing lenders, check their minimum trading history and accepted income evidence before comparing advertised rates; a product you cannot document eligibility for is not a practical alternative.

Can I apply without connecting my online banking?

Credit24’s published process uses illion to retrieve three months of bank information, and its FAQs state that PDF statements are not accepted. Credit24 says it receives a read-only copy of the statements and does not receive your banking login details. If you cannot or do not want to use that process, confirm whether another method is available before starting an application. Document-upload options offered elsewhere should not be assumed to apply here.

Will repaying early remove all remaining interest and fees?

Credit24 advertises no early-repayment penalty. For interest-bearing loans, it says interest runs until the balance is cleared. Its fee-based small loans require a separate check: no exit penalty does not, by itself, establish whether an establishment fee is refunded or which monthly charges remain payable. Request a dated settlement figure and compare it with the scheduled payments still outstanding. That difference shows the actual saving from repaying early.

What happens if a repayment fails, and can Credit24 reduce my repayments?

Credit24’s FAQs describe a $10 weekly default fee, while footer wording describes charges for failed direct-debit attempts. These descriptions differ, so check the default-fee details and your contract rather than assuming one missed payment attracts only one charge.

Its hardship process may allow temporarily reduced repayments or a longer term, depending on your circumstances. Contact 1300 293 000 or financialhardship@credit24.com.au. Ask whether interest or fees continue and how the arrangement changes the total amount repayable.

How can I challenge unexpected charges or a repayment-support decision?

Use Credit24’s complaints process by emailing letstalk@credit24.com.au or calling 1300 293 000. Identify the disputed charge or decision and include the relevant contract, statement or correspondence. If dissatisfied with the outcome, Credit24 directs customers to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, which provides free, independent dispute resolution, on 1800 931 678.
